History of Democracy Lecture

History of Democracy Lecture

This lecture focuses on two areas:

1. The Magna Carta (I was lucky enough to be one of the 1,215 lucky ballot winners, allowing me to participate in the recent 800 year celebration, viewing all four original copies at the British Library).

2. Prime Ministers – Past and Present.

With a brief reference to the origins of democracy, in Ancient Greece, I take up the story during the reign of King John – and then the first of our prime ministers, Robert Walpole a few years on!

With the General Election fast approaching, it's fun to take a look at some seriously unflattering 'shots' of our maybe future leaders, and a brief gallop through their 50 odd predecessors.

What better way to steel yourself for what is to come?!
