Sample Text

Martin Frobisher: Indeed. Strange to think how they could survive the sub-zero conditions in their homeland … but couldn’t cope with a bit of damp drizzle over here. But tell us, Richard Chancellor, about your great adventures!

Richard Chancellor: Well I decided not to bother going North West, as you had. Thought I’d try going North East, round the top of Europe, instead. Well, I never made it to the Indies either, but I did meet a fascinating, if rather frightening chap, called Ivan the Terrible – the Tsar of Russia, who agreed for us English to trade with his country.

Francis Drake (striding onto stage, impatiently): Enough! Enough! I expect they’re (pointing to audience) wondering where I’ve got to! Me alias El Draque! This lot might have gone cruising around .. trying to find the East …and failing! I not only made it all the way round the globe but I came back …LOADED!

Elizabeth 1st: Ah! Francis! Or (tapping his shoulder with a royal sceptre) shouldn’t I say, Sir Francis! What a rogue! Fancy robbing all those Spanish and Portuguese treasure ships! How very wicked of you …(smiling coquettishly, then snapping nastily) Now hand it over!

4. Money – Pink Floyd

Narrator: And so the English got richer, thanks to the piracy of Drake!
