Description
Thank You, Assembly has a cast of 30 (this can easily be adapted up or down – just change the numbers). The narrator can stand to one side throughout, with those children who are speaking either doing so from their seats, or, in the case of the second row, standing to deliver their lines.
Duration: Around 10 minutes – easily extended to 20 minutes or more.
The script as it stands can be read in around 10 minutes but this can easily be extended to include children’s own personal choices of what they feel thankful for – and their inclusion of special people who have helped them whom they would like to thank.
The performance may also be extended by the reading of one of the poems suggested below and the singing of e.g. Autumn Days by Estelle White. These inclusions and the above will double the performance time and more.
Music
A choice of this music can be played before and after the assembly – these are just suggestions:
- Thank you very much – The Scaffold
- Autumn Days by Estelle White
Plus some suggestions from my World Smile Day script:
Music
- What a Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong
- My Favourite Things – Sound of Music
- Here Comes the Sun – Beatles
- Happy by Pharrell Williams
Poems
- Life is … Mother Theresa
- Thanksgiving – Ivy O. Eastwick
- Thank You Letter – Eric Finney
I wrote this script during the week leading up to Thanksgiving. It seemed like a good time to stress the importance of saying thank you when, sadly, this is not always a given. It is a very simple script but I hope it addresses and reinforces the importance of us appreciating each other and acknowledging ‘good deeds’ as and when they occur so that we can all feel more valued in our current world. Hearing the words ‘Thank You’ really does make a difference!
