Let’s Exercise assembly for Key Stage II

Includes FREE Olympic Ode

Let’s Exercise assembly for Key Stage II  is one of a series of scripts written with the goal of promoting good health and healthy lifestyles among our children. The script covers a number of different sports – which of course can be swapped with the children’s own personal favourites – and outlines the benefits of exercise, both physical and mental.

It also takes a look at sport from the viewpoint of those not ‘into sport’, exploring the reasons for this and, happily, in the end, triumphing over what are often quite widely held and perfectly reasonable reservations.

Cast of 30: Narrator plus Athletes 1 -29 (though the role of the Narrator may be taken on by class teacher). This cast number is easily adaptable up or down. Duration: Around 20 minutes not including music suggestions. Maybe a little longer, with the addition of The Olympic Ode.

Let’s Exercise assembly for Key Stage II Sample Text:

Athlete 17:          I like doing things by myself. I love swimming and when I come out of the pool I feel amazing!

Narrator:             Course, you could join a club if you wanted to. And get involved in lots of competitions – that could potentially take you around the world, if you were good enough.

Athlete 17:          That’s true. But I’m not a very competitive sort of person so I’m quite happy doing what I’m doing.

Narrator:             And that’s fine. Whatever works for you!

Athlete 18:          I’m football mad! I love scoring goals. But it’s not just about me. I love being in a team!

Athlete 19:          Me too! I live for rugby! When I go out on that pitch, I forget everything else in my life.

Athlete 20:          I’m like that with tennis. It demands total focus.

Athlete 21           Same with my dancing! I totally zone out. I lose myself in the music. I feel every beat. There’s just nothing else like it.

Athlete 22:          Concentration is pretty important in my sport, archery!

Narrator:             (Laughing) I’ll say! For the safety of everyone else!

Athlete 23:          I love rounders! It’s so great, cheering each other on!

Athlete 24:          Yes. Netball is another great team sport. I just love it! And you know what? It’s not just about the winning.

Athlete 18:          Right. It’s true we all want to score goals

Athlete 19:          And be on the winning side.

Athlete 20:          But it’s the taking part that counts.

Athlete 23:          We can’t always be winners. And if you’ve played your best, there’s no shame in losing.

Narrator:             Aha! An important lesson in life.

(Aside to audience) I’m loving hearing about all these different sports!
