Rugby World Cup 2019 Assembly
Cast of 30, Duration around 20 minutes – depending on how many hakas you can fit in!
This is an attempt to enlighten those who find rugby a bit of an intellectual challenge! Using a similar format to that used for recent Cricket Assembly, this likewise uses an A-Z of terminology to try and throw some light on the game and how it works!

Child 23: V is for that all-important video referee. However good the actual referee is, there will always be decisions that will be open to question that have to be looked at a second time.
Narrator: Hooray for technology!
Child 23: The video referee is actually called the TMO or Television Match Official. And is now a vital part of the game.
Narrator: Whatever did we do before technology, eh? Any takers for W?
Child 24: W is for wheeling. This is when a scrum rotates through ninety degrees or more. It is said to have wheeled. The scrum will then be reset.
Narrator: I’m guessing there is nothing for X – unless you consider some of the action to be x-certificate!
Child 25: (Indignantly) Definitely not! It’s a gentleman’s sport!
Child 26: It may look aggressive (pauses) but never violent!
Narrator: I guess I’ll have to take your word for that! Though I think I’m going to have to work on my physique a bit before I consider taking up the sport!
Child 27: But you don’t have to be massive! Think of Jonny Wilkinson – he was no giant!
Child 28: Speed and quick thinking are just as important as sheer brawn!
Narrator: And so to Y? I guess that’s
(Child 29 shows Narrator the yellow card)
Child 29: Yellow card! (Looking round at cast) Reckon anyone here should get one?
