World Cup Information Sheets

World Cup Information Sheets. These information sheets provide information on some of the countries that have taken part in past world cups and are intended as a template for work on the remaining nations.

They were produced at the time of the 2010 World Cup so the grouping referred to below is based on the teams 4 years ago.

They can be used for Project Work and can then be used in an assembly or presentation. Smaller plays e.g. with 6 speakers, is another option – see the end of S.A. information sheet for suggestions on themes.

I have provided ‘basic information’ on each country in the first group, Group A from the 2010 World Cup: South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay and France –  as an example of the kind of information that might be collected for a Countries of the World Cup project  – with a few ‘quirky’ facts and jokes thrown in for fun! This information could be used as a ‘checklist’; or, alternatively, presented to the children as the material to be used in an assembly – the children choosing the information they wish to use to represent their assigned country.

For project work, I would suggest *assigning each child in the class a country – from the 32 listed in the 8 groups below. It would probably make life easier if they all use the same set of 10 questions to work from rather than thinking up their own questions to research. *I would also suggest drawing names from a hat when it comes to assigning countries, as I suspect the majority might otherwise just go for England and/or Brazil!

A whole class assembly on Countries of the World Cup could easily be put together, using this work – each child representing one (or more) of the nations taking part in the 2014 World Cup.

The following list is the suggested template:

  1. Name of Country
  2. Capital City
  3. Description/picture of National Flag
  4. Geographical location
  5. The system of government including a brief history
  6. ‘Economy’ – exports/products specific to the country
  7. Interesting facts re: culture, food, heritage, etc
  8. ‘Quirky’ facts
  9. World Cup facts
  10. Jokes

These information sheets are part of a package I have put together which include the World Cup Assembly – one referee taking on 32 entrants for this year’s championship in Brazil!
