Aesop Fables -The Tortoise and the Hare – Guided Reading Script or Play

Aesop Fables -The Tortoise and the Hare, Readers Theater (Cast of 6, around 5 minutes reading time) plus lesson plan including teaching input, synopsis, guided reading script, discussion points and suggestions for further work.

Lesson: Around 20 – 30 minutes

The script can be used either as a guided reading script (6 readers) or as a mini-performance (cast of 6) and could be used either in a Literacy or PSHE class (owing to the life lessons contained within the text).

Aesop Fables -The Tortoise and the Hare, Sample Text:

Hare:                     (Tutting) It was a fix!

Tortoise:              Oh come on, Hare! Don’t be a bad loser!

Hare:                     It should never have happened!

Tortoise:              But it did! I beat you fair and square.

Pupil 2:                 You, a tortoise? Beat him, a hare?

Hare:                     (Sulkily) OK, is it really necessary to rub it in quite so much?

Pupil 1:                 (To Tortoise) But that’s amazing! How did you do it?

Pupil 2:                 Did you grow wings?

Tortoise:              Of course not! I didn’t have to! After all his bragging, it was hare who allowed me to win!

Pupil 2:                 Allowed you to? Why would he do that?
