Hansel and Gretel – an alternative version READERS THEATER is one of a series of fairy tales, given an alternative twist, and presented in Reader’s Theater format.
Cast of 6, Duration around 10 minutes. Plus synopsis, teaching input, discussion and suggested follow up activities.

Sample Text:
Father: Can’t you two ever get on? Life would be so much easier!
Stepmother: Families, eh? Who would ‘ave ‘em!
Come on, hubbie, dear. No point hanging around here, playing happy families – not!
Father: (Reluctantly) Oh OK. If you insist.
Is this really the only solution? Seems a bit drastic to me.
Stepmother: Do you think I’d suggest it if there was any alternative?
Father: Oh all right.
Narrator: (Snorting) As I said
Father: (Protesting) I did try!
Narrator: (Sarcastically) Oh that was quite some fight you put up! Oh, go on. Walk away, then, if you can.
Stepmother: (Testily) Husband!
Father: Coming, dear!
Narrator: Huh! Not so much as a backward glance! That obviously was really hard for him! I can’t help feeling for these poor kids. I mean, I know they’re not the sweetest in the world but, being left to the wolves by your parents? That can’t be right.
